Though most is tree shaped, wood comes in many shapes and forms. Some natural, some forced by circumstance, some by man. We are not often the best people at ‘looking after’, the world we live in. I try to ensure that all the wood I use is from sustainable forests or replanted, though, with some of the more exotic stuff, it’s hard to tell. Often I find that the wood I use has been designated as worthless, fit only for firewood or dumped and left to rot. Yet it can be beautiful with colour and figuring of the highest and finest lurking below a scabby bark or misshapen trunk. One of my favourites is Bog Oak, which is discussed on another page. It has been used for centuries - in fact it has waited for centuries before being utilised and shaped for pleasure and display, but that is only one of many, many species of wood, all with a great variety of colour and characteristics, too many to note here. Of course it all depends on what you class as beautiful. I presume, if you are looking at this site, you find wood with its warmth, vibrancy and ‘Je ne sais quoi’ characteristics, attractive. So please, enjoy and if you like please buy. Or give me a call if you want that little something special made. TEL. 01592 756293 Mob. 07733 284 615 E-mail enquiries@glaodhan.co.uk
